The program begins with a 45-minute assembly providing cultural and historical
information about Navajo people and their weaving. Music, video, display and
demonstration make up this informative presentation.
Following the assembly, classroom workshops provide an opportunity for students
to participate in a hands-on experience:
Carding sheep's wool.
Spinning yarn on a traditional Navajo spindle.
Weaving weft face tapestry-style.
A program may consist of the assembly alone or an assembly combined with classroom workshops.
Workshops may not be presented without the assembly. Each classroom workshop is intended for
no more than 30 students.
|
There are two types of workshop options available with this program.
|
30-minute workshops:
Students participate in the activities, but will not have time to make
anything to take home.
3-hour workshops: Students warp a small
frame loom and learn tapestry style weaving. The loom and weaving are then
theirs to take home.
|
The program with a 30 minute workshop option is best suited for grades 1-3.
The 3-hour workshop option is best suited for grades 4-5.

Walking in beauty means everything to the Navajo People.
To walk in beauty is to walk in balance and in harmony
with oneself and the universe.
|
In Beauty I walk
With Beauty before me I walk
With Beauty behind me I walk
With Beauty above me I walk
With Beauty around me I walk
It has become Beauty again
It has become Beauty again
It has become Beauty again
It has become Beauty again
