A unique classroom program for elementary students with Hands-on participation, demonstrations, primary source artifacts and multimedia presentation.


The program begins with a one hour assembly which includes a demonstration of wool preparation, spinning yarn on a drop spindle and on an antique great wheel that dates back to the end of the eighteenth century. Displayed are many examples of hand woven fabric and natural dyes commonly used in the Colonial American period. A video describes the process preparing flax to make linen and of warping a loom for weaving. Traditional music of the accompanies the presentation.

Following the assembly, classroom workshops provide an opportunity for students to participate in a one hour, hands-on experience.
     Carding sheep's wool
     Spinning yarn on a spindle
     Weaving a wrist band to take home!
A program may consist of the assembly alone or an assembly combined with classroom workshops. Workshops may not be presented without the assembly. Each classroom workshop is intended for no more than 30 students.
